Hillsboro High School art students enjoy success at SSCC

Hillsboro High School art students participated in Southern State Community College’s Area High School Art Competition 2012, in a juried exhibition held on Feb. 9.
Twelve schools, from four counties (Clinton, Adams, Brown, and Highland) participated in the show.
Hillsboro High School art students were very successful in this show, with Erin Chaney receiving Best of Show, for her charcoal self-portrait, and Jonathon Gillman receiving Reserve Best of Show, for his Ceramic wire series. Best of School awards went to Jonathon Gillman, Best of School; Matthew Miller, Reserve Best of School; with Honorable Mentions going to Evan Barrett, and Jonathon Gillman.
Other awards went to: Jaimee Davis, 1st place in Printmaking, Best of Category in Fine Art Crafting; Joel Ames, Best of Category in Commercial Art; Elayna Ward, 1st place in Commercial Art, Honorable Mention in Fine Art Crafting; Alain Fair, 1st place in Ceramics Sculpture, 2nd place in Drawing Charcoal; Jessica Donahue, Honorable Mention in Drawing Charcoal; Jennifer Bray, 1st place in Drawing Pen & Ink, Honorable Mention in Drawing Colored Pencil; Dominique Burns, Honorable Mention in Drawing Colored Pencil; Amie Griffith, 2nd place in Painting Watercolor Water Media; Evan Barrett, 1st place in Sculpture Installation; Matthew Hertenstein, 2nd place in Ceramics; Jessica Shelton, 3rd place in Ceramics; Carey Juillerat, Honorable Mention in Ceramics; Tierra Dabbs, Honorable Mention in Ceramics.
Alain Fair also received the Appalachian Artists Guild Award for his Ceramic Masks.
Monetary awards were received by Best of Show ($150), Reserve Best of Show ($100) and Appalachian Artists Guild Award ($50).
