Highland County unemployment rate at 11 percent

Highland County's unemployment rate is at 11 percent for the month of March, down more than 3 percent since this time last year.

According to data released Tuesday from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Highland County ranked 12th in the state of the counties with the highest jobless rates.

Highland County was ranked with the 9th highest rate for March 2011, with 13.3 percent unemployment.

For March 2012, Pike County, again, had the highest unemployment rate in the state at 14.7 percent.

In other area counties, Adams County was listed fifth with 12.1 percent, Clinton County was 11th at 11.1 percent, Brown County was at 19th with 10 percent, Ross County was at 25th with 9.3 percent, and Fayette County was at 49th at 8.1 percent.

Mercer County had the lowest rate of the 88 counties, at 4.9 percent.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services had previously reported that Ohio's overall unemployment rate was 7.5 percent in March, down from 7.6 percent in February.
