Highland County Special Olympics Day Sept. 28

Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer proclaimed Saturday, Sept. 28 as Highland County Special Olympics Day.

This year's event will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Hills and Dales Training Center, U.S. 50 east, Hillsboro.

Local student-athletes Matty White and Riley Wilson accepted the proclamation.

Matty will be competing in the softball throw and basketball hot shot on Sept. 28. Riley will be competing in track as well as the softball throw and basketball hot shot events.

Matty and Riley were accompanied by Chris Hawk, Administrative Assistant to the Special Education Department for Lynchburg-Clay Local Schools; Mary Washburn of Family Services/Intervention Services; and Wendy Fisher, Wilmington College intern.
