Highland County leaders engage state officials during Legislative Day at Ohio Statehouse

Highland County business, education finance, and community leaders traveled to the Ohio Statehouse for Highland County Legislative Day, an opportunity to strengthen relationships with state leaders and gain insight into key issues impacting the region’s future.

Throughout the day, attendees heard directly from a distinguished lineup of state officials and policy experts. 

John Carey, director of the Ohio Governor’s Office of Appalachia, shared updates on initiatives aimed at advancing economic growth and opportunity across Appalachian communities. 

Tracy Intihar, assistant director of Agriculture, provided perspective on the state’s agricultural priorities and the importance of supporting Ohio’s agriculture industry.

Legal and policy insights were offered by John Flis and Andrew Hinton of Bricker Graydon Wyat LLP, who discussed legislative developments and their potential impact on local communities and businesses. Economic development strategies were highlighted by Dave Robinson of The Montrose Group, emphasizing actionable pathways for growth in Highland County.

Attendees also learned about Ohio’s role in the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial celebration from Todd Kleismit, director of America 250-Ohio, who outlined opportunities for communities to engage in commemorating America’s 250th anniversary.

Members of the Highland County delegation heard directly from state legislators Shane Wilkin and Bob Peterson, who provided updates on current legislative priorities and ongoing efforts at the Statehouse. 

Additional economic insight was shared by Scott Ryan of JobsOhio, highlighting resources available to support business expansion and job creation.

Highland County Legislative Day underscored the importance of collaboration between local communities and state leadership. By fostering meaningful dialogue and strengthening partnerships, the event helps ensure Highland County remains well-positioned to pursue new opportunities and address future challenges.
