Highland County Chamber of Commerce announces new president

Today, the Highland County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors announced that Melissa Elmore has accepted the position and will assume the role of president of the Highland County Chamber of Commerce.

Melissa brings a diverse background in business development, entrepreneurship, networking and legislative advocacy to the position.

Following the announcement of the position’s vacancy last month, the board of directors immediately assembled a core search committee to find the right person to take the lead.

Prior to beginning the interview process the search committee identified a handful of core competencies and types of experience that a successful candidate should possess.

Amanda Bledsoe, the chairman of the Highland County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors said, “After interviewing several candidates, it was obvious, during the process, that Melissa encompassed each of those qualities and skills we identified as being critical for the chamber’s success.”  

“Her experience in writing business plans, overall business and financial management experience, and prior involvement in legislative advocacy and event planning made her an excellent choice,” said Bill Smith, member of the Highland County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

“This experience coupled with her personal knowledge of our local businesses and the community made her the best choice. Please join us in working with Melissa and growing the Highland County business community.”

Over the past six years, the Chamber of Commerce has grown tremendously and become a vibrant resource for our business community. The board of directors is excited about the prospects of the organization’s future under Elmore’s leadership. Melissa Elmore will assume the position of president beginning Thursday, November 8.
