Highland County Agricultural Society, Junior Fair Board, Junior Fair Sales Committee announce new building construction
The Highland County Agricultural Society, the Highland County Junior Fair Board and the Highland County Junior Fair Sales Committee would like to announce an expansion project for the Highland County Fairgrounds.
A new building, which will house the Highland County Junior Fair Board and the Highland County Junior Fair Sales Committee, is currently under construction at the south end of the show arena.
This new building has been in the planning stages for many years. Funds have been set aside for over 50 years in a Junior Fair Improvement Fund to help with the building expansion.
The Junior Fair Board, which works on the planning and implementation of all Junior Fair events, meets year-round to make sure the Junior Fair operates smoothly for Junior Fair exhibitors, volunteers and family members. Currently, the size of the Junior Fair Board office is inadequate.

The new building will be able to be used year-round and will be big enough to conduct Junior Fair Board meetings. The Junior Fair Board will be housed in the lower level.
The Highland County Senior Fair Board works closely with the Junior Fair Board members, the Highland County Junior Fair Coordinator, the Ohio State University Extension, Highland County, the FFA chapters and FCCLA chapters of Greenfield, Hillsboro, Leesburg, Lynchburg-Clay and Mowrystown and local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to coordinate events and activities for fair participants.
The Junior Fair Sales Committee, which was organized in 1995, is made up of 4-H and FFA adult staff, commodity group representatives, Senior Fair officials and the business community.
The Sales Committee runs the weigh-ins, organizes the sales, publicizes the events, prepares the show bills, contacts potential buyers, contacts the auctioneers and ringmen, works with the local stockyards, including Union Stockyards and United Producers, cuts checks to Junior Fair youth and recognizes the buyers.
When the Sales Committee started, they worked out of a trailer, progressed to a temporary building and will now be a part of the new building housed on the top floor with easy access for buyers going to the show arena for the sales. The committee will now be able to meet year-round for better organization.
This building will be a big asset to the Junior Fair of Highland County. No funds have come from the Ohio State Extension, Highland County or the Highland County Senior Fair Board. All funds have been generated for over 50 years in a Highland County Junior Fair Improvement Fund.
