Hillsboro Fire and Rescue has determined that two weekend fires in the 200 Block of John Street are "suspicious" and remain under investigation.

According to a report from the Hillsboro Police Department, on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 2:22 a.m., the HPD responded to 222 John Street, where a house was reported to be on fire.

"At 3:10 a.m., an officer also noticed that fire was breaking out of a nearby house at 214 John Street," according to the report. "Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, along with other fire departments, responded and fought both fires. The 200 block of John Street was closed for about three hours while the fires were extinguished. Both houses were not occupied at ht time of the fires. Both fires were determined to be suspicious by the fire department."

The incidents remain under investigation by HFR.

In a separate incident, the HPD also reported that on Monday at 7:55 p.m. the HPD received a call from a resident in the 300 block of West Walnut that her vehicle had been vandalized while parked in front of a residence.
