Heartland holds 8th annual chili challenge

Heartland of Hillsboro held its 8th annual chili challenge Wednesday, with all proceeds going to the Highland County Society for Children and Adults.
Held at Heartland of Hillsboro, there were two categories, for mild and hot chili recipes. With a panel of judges made up of local officials and business owners, a first and second place winner was chosen in each category.
Darlene Rhoades was the first place winner in the mild category, with Herb Day coming in second. The hot category winner was Ellie Zint, with second place going to Ann Byars.
The winning recipe in each category will be featured during the annual chili supper and silent auction on March 8 from 5-7 p.m. at the Ponderosa Banquet Center. Pre-sale tickets are $5, with tickets at the door $6.
The events are sponsored by Gibbs Associates Insurance, Heartland of Hillsboro, The Highland County Press, Kroger, NCB, Hillsboro Ponderosa Steak House, Wilkin-Wilkin Insurance and Buckeye Country.
