Health Department and HDH partner for breast cancer awareness event Oct. 22
Join the Highland County Health Department and Highland District Hospital for a free breakfast in the health department parking lot. The event will be held on October 22 starting at 6 a.m. and continuing until all 500 breakfasts have been handed out.
This is a drive-thru event, and you stay in your car the whole time. Pull into the lot at 1487 N. High Street in Hillsboro, and volunteers will bring everything to your window.
People who attend will receive a free breakfast, a free gift bag, and information on breast cancer awareness and prevention. People will also have the opportunity to schedule a mammogram directly with Highland District Hospital, right from their car window. Flu and COVID-19 shots will be available at the event as well, without getting out of the car.
“Highland County has one of the highest death rates from breast cancer in the entire state, even though our overall rate of cancer is lower than most of the state,” said Jared Warner, Highland County Health Commissioner.
“The problem is that our community is not getting the free breast cancer screenings that are already available here. We are finding problems too late. People are dying who did not have to. That is what we are trying to stop.”
Highland District Hospital provides no-cost breast cancer screenings, called mammograms, several times throughout the year. These screenings are an easy way for women to find potential problems early. Early detection saves lives. Found late, it is a much harder fight.
If you are due for a mammogram, stop by on October 22 and get it scheduled. Hospital staff will help you set up an appointment before you drive away.
The event is free and open to everyone. There are only 500 breakfasts, so coming early is a good idea. For questions, call the Highland County Health Department at 937-393-1941. Join us on October 22 at 6 a.m. to help put the brakes on breast cancer.
