Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings, right, chats with new Highland District Hospital physicians Dr. Nelle Cotten, left, and Dr. Gail Boriel and HDH CEO Jim Baer at Wednesday night’s Business After Hours at the hospital.

Highland District Hospital was showing off its new digital mammography unit that has been in operation for just more than a week as dozens attended the monthly Highland County Chamber of Commerce event.

The new mammography unit became a reality through a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission and a fundraising campaign by the Highland District Hospital Foundation.

“I’d like to thank the community for all the support,” Baer said.

“We appreciate the support and all of the donors. (HDH Foundation Director) Cathy (Jones) did a great job with the grant process, and the staff did a great job of redesigning the unit to make it more friendly and comfortable for the patients.”
