HDH kicks off Brake for Breakfast Oct. 3

To kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Highland District Hospital is teaming up with the American Cancer Society with a free breakfast event for women.

“Brake for Breakfast" is a convenient drive-thru event that occurs at two junctures after entering the Fenner Avenue entrance of HDH.

This drive-through event includes a stop at breakfast junction where women will receive a bagged breakfast. At Pink Place she receives pink gift bag filled with important information on breast cancer. Participants will be greeted by physicians and staff members of the Imaging Center and Cancer Care Services as they drive-thru.

At ‘Information Way’ she will be handed a free continental breakfast to go, including Panera’s famous Pink Ribbon Bagel. At ‘Pink Place’ she will be given educational information about breast cancer, and give-aways, including a pink gift bag.

Please stop by Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Fenner Avenue entrance of Highland District Hospital to participate in this event for awareness.

Last year, more than 300 women participated in the event according to Dr. Regina Melink. She sates that the HDH staff is proud to partner with women to become “one less” breast cancer statistic.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. The chance of developing invasive breast cancer at some time in a woman’s life is a little less than 1 in 8. Over 230,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2012.

The Imaging Center at HDH is certified by the American College of Radiology. “We provide more than 4,000 mammograms each year, states Misty Campbell, RT, Imaging Center Coordinator. She and her staff are committed to providing women with the best imaging experience.

The staff of HDH would like to remind women that a screening mammogram can be scheduled, without a physician’s referral, by patients who are 35 years of age or older. Women must be symptom free, not pregnant or breast feeding.

Appointments can be made by calling the Imaging Center at 937.393.MAMMO (6266). Women with symptoms will need a physician referral for a diagnostic mammogram. The American Cancer Society encourages women without health insurance to call their Resource Line at 800.227.2345 for screening options.
