Approximately 200 came out Saturday night for the annual Highland District Hospital Foundation Gala.
The gala, which was held at the Hillsboro Elks, was themed “Country Glitz” and all proceeds from the event will support the purchase of a digital mammography unit at HDH.
“On behalf of the foundation, I’m so pleased with the support of the community to bring a digital mammography unit to the hospital,” HDH Foundation Director Cathy Jones said.
“It’s a much-needed service. This is a fun night, and I appreciate all the people who made this year’s gala successful and all the people who support the foundation.”
A silent auction and live auction was held, with items such as Michigan vs. Ohio State football tickets, a TV, a Tim Tebow autographed football, artwork, jewelry, a grill and an iPad going to the highest bidder.
A golf cart was also raffled off at the end of the night. Joyce Carmichael was the winner of the golf cart.
“A lot of hard work goes into this,” Foundation Chairperson Vicki Rhude said. “Cathy Jones, our director, is an amazing person and does a great job, and because of the continued support of the community, the community saves lives, helping family, friends and the people of this area.”

Highland District Hospital CEO Jim Baer thanked the Foundation Board, along with the community, for helping purchase the mammography unit “that is so important in the diagnosis of cancer.”
Earlier this year, the HDH Foundation sponsored a golf outing at the Elks in July, and held the second-annual Highland District Hospital Foundation Family Fun Day Run/Walk at Rocky Fork last month.
