Greenfield Police investigate death of infant

The Greenfield Police Department is investigating the death of a 10-month-old infant that occurred Monday, but the cause of the child's death has not yet been determined.

 

GPD Chief Tim Hester said that the department received the call at approximately 4 p.m. reporting the deceased infant Monday in an apartment in the 100 block of South Washington Street.

 

"At this time we are awaiting autopsy results from the coroner," Hester said. "We did a preliminary investigation."

 

Deputy Highland County Coroner Dr. Jeff Beery said that the child's body has been transported to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, and they are awaiting testing results to determine a cause of death. 

 

"The autopsy results from Montgomery County are pending," Beery said. 

 

According to Highland County Common Pleas Juvenile and Probate Court Judge Kevin Greer, the other children of the infant's mother were placed in the care of Highland County Children's Services.

 

"The court granted temporary emergency custody," Greer said.

 

The judge said a court action of that nature is typical under such circumstances.
