Gilboa Cemetery gets a facelift; book published on Paint Township history

Marianna Kerns Morgan, a Highland County native now living in
Chillicothe, has released a new book on Gilboa Cemetery, in Paint
Township, Highland County.
In 1954, Attorneys David N. and his wife, Jane N. McBride, compiled and published “Cemetery Inscriptions of Highland County, Ohio.”
This book included all cemeteries in Highland County and is still available from the Southern Ohio Genealogical Society, Hillsboro. Gilboa Cemetery was included in that book at the time on page 435 and included all burials known up to that date. There were 61 surnames included in the McBride book for Gilboa Cemetery. In the intervening years, of course, many names
have been added to this cemetery.
Marianna grew up in Greenfield, and it had long been a dream of hers to update the burials that been made in this old beautiful graveyard up to the present time where as many as three generations of her family were resting. Also, she wanted to document the stones that are there today because many of the stones that were there 50 years ago have long since disappeared. She graduated from McClain High School in 1956 where she was a 4 year member of the National Honor Society, Vice President and then
President of F.H.A. She was a recipient of the Betty Crocker Award, State Homemaker Award, Junior Homemaker Degree, and served on the Dragon staff. She was also a member of McCall’s Teen Fashion School and Board Scholarship Test 4.
Marianna was employed by the Federal Government, Social Security Administration and served in Chillicothe, Ohio, Lakeland, Fla., and Clearwater, and Holiday, Fla.
She raised a family of six beautiful children and after retirement at age 50, she began her study of genealogy. Her husband is Robert M. Morgan. She held the office of Vice President and President of The Southern Ohio Genealogical Society and spent many happy hours in research and meeting and dealing with the public.
This book is a story of the lives, the accomplishments, the final resting place of many of the early settlers of Paint Township, Highland County, Ohio and descendants. It is a good reference book for family research. It consists of 348 pages, over 392 burials, as well as pictures, military information and family history of those interred at Gilboa Cemetery.
