Full water restoration may not take place until after July 3; boil advisory remains in effect

While the power has been restored to the water pumping station at the Highland County Water Company, a full restoration to customers may not occur until July 3, or later.

Sunday afternoon the Highland County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) issued a news release stating that, "The Highland County Water Company and local energy partners have restored power to their drinking water pumping station, and are filling the storage tanks in Highland County."

All Highland County Water Company tanks have water in them with the exception of Fairfax, New Market, Mad River Road and Tar Pike water towers.

Water company representatives are advising that a full restoration may not occur until July 3, or later.

FEMA is scheduled to have a truck load of water delivered to Highland County Monday, EMA Director Jim Lyle said.

FEMA said trucks carrying water were on the road to several distribution points in southern and eastern Ohio, including Hillsboro, New Vienna, Athens, Gallipolis, Marietta and Woodsfield.

FEMA officials also were working with state officials to evaluate generator needs for such places as hospitals, emergency centers and police stations, and on critical infrastructure needs such as water/sewage plants.

Farmers who have livestock issues can call 393-5880 for assistance.

A boil advisory for drinking water for human consumption remains in effect.

Customers are encouraged to conserve water so all water towers can be filled more quickly.

The city of Hillsboro and the villages of Greenfield, Lynchburg and Leesburg have their own water systems, and are unaffected by the aforementioned water issues.
