First Highland County Vietnam Veterans Day Commemoration planned for March 29

The first annual Vietnam Veterans Day Commemoration in Highland County is set for Friday, March 29 at the Highland County Veterans Service Office, 135 N. High St., in uptown Hillsboro.
Highland County commissioners and Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings signed a proclamation for the event at the Wednesday county commission meeting.
In addition, a special recognition for area Vietnam veterans will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. March 29 at the VSC office. Executive Director Robin Brown said the day's events will include medical outreach services.
"They're having a (four-day) commemoration in Columbus next week, but since a lot of our veterans can't make it, we thought we'd have a service here in Highland County," Brown said.
Several area veterans and Veteran Service Commission board members attended Wednesday's proclamation signing by Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer (in absentia) and Mayor Drew Hastings.
"We'd like to encourage area veterans to attend the March 29 service," Wilkin said.
