According to Hillsboro Firefighter Marc Bayless, one firefighter was taken to Highland District Hospital with minor injuries.

"Our department responded to the call of a working structure fire at 8:55 p.m.," Bayless said in a news release. "Upon arrival, we found heavy fire involvement from the second floor of a two-story residential structure. Neighbors advised no occupants were inside.

"Units stretched hand lines and attempted to make an interior attack. A fire condition known as a 'flash over' occurred on the first floor, engulfing it in fire. Defensive operations were conducted from the exterior and the majority of the fire was brought under control.

"The structure sustained extensive damage. Twenty-two firefighters were on scene from five different departments. One firefighter was transported from the scene and treated at Highland District Hospital. The state fire marshal's office was called to the scene."

The fire remains under investigation.
