The Hillsboro Fire Department was called to a report of a fire alarm with smoke showing at the Days Inn on Harry Sauner Road at approximately 6:54 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24.
Acting Captain Marc Bayless reported that upon arrival, firefighters found smoke on the first floor of the building.
Investigation found the source of the smoke to be a malfunctioning compressor for the sprinkler system.
Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District, which was called for mutual aid, assisted HFD with setting up fans to clear the smoke from the building.
Firefighters were on scene for approximately one half hour to clear smoke and ensure there were no additional problems.
Highland County North Fire District was also called, but remained at their station.
