Family businesses applaud Ohio House for passing budget bill

The American Family Business Institute (AFBI), an organization representing family businesses and farms in Ohio and across the country, released the following statement today in response to the passage of a budget bill that includes estate tax repeal by the Ohio House of Representatives:

“Ohio’s state representatives demonstrated courage and prudence in passing a House budget bill today which permanently repeals the state estate tax,” said Dick Patten, AFBI’s president.

“Ohio’s House of Representatives has taken a stand on behalf of the small guy today. By repealing the state estate tax, they are creating a future Ohio that’s friendlier for family businesses, farmers, investors and the workers they employ.

“AFBI encourages the Ohio Senate to show similar resolve and move a budget bill that also includes estate tax repeal.

“Senate President Thomas Niehaus has indicated that the Senate will pass the budget as written by the House. Now is the time for Ohio’s Senators to show decisive action and permanently rid Ohio of its burdensome state estate tax.”

Once passed through the House and Senate, the budget bill will go to Governor Kasich, who is an outspoken supporter of repeal.[[In-content Ad]]
