Faith and Light Mennonite a cappella choir to perform at New Vienna Community Church Sept. 16

Being in existence for close to 10 years, the Faith and Light Mennonite a cappella choir was born through the leadership of Pastor Duane Troyer and Mike Beachy. The choir will perform at the New Vienna Community Church at 7 p.m. Sept. 16
With a mission goal of reaching people for Christ, the Choir has appeared in numerous local concerts in surrounding communities, as well as appearing several times a year in a prison ministry.
Mark Kuhns will be directing the Choir in concert at the New Vienna Community Church which is located at 412 West Street, New Vienna. Because of Mark’s love of singing, he recently attended a junior college for two weeks of intense studies of choral directing.
There are around 40 members in the Choir ranging in age between 16 to the early 50s.
When asked how they have accomplished the ability to sing so beautifully in four-part harmony, one choir member, James Gingerich, said, “We do not have a piano or any musical instrument in our worship services, so we sing four-part harmony from the little ones on up in our homes, schools and churches. Our youth go to winter Bible schools where music classes are offered and choral singing is emphasized.”
All church members are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the choir. Right now the choir is practicing at least once a week; however, earlier in the year, the only practice was at home or participation during Church services.
A definite highlight of their performances occurred last September when half of the choir appeared in concert with some choir members of another church singing at the famous Chicago Pacific Garden Mission.
“We are just ordinary people who have a special love for our awesome God. Pray for us. We want Jesus to be honored and glorified”, James Gingerich said as he is looking forward to the upcoming concert
This will be the fourth visit of the choir to visit the New Vienna Community Church, and as Pastor Dan Mayo says, “people start calling in early to mid summer inquiring when the Choir will be back again. We invite you to join us for a special night of singing and testimony. Refreshments will be served immediately following the concert.”
