Dr. Tausha Barton of Buckeye Family Eye Clinic, a member of the Hillsboro Lions Club, was a recent speaker for the Hillsboro Lions Club scholarship night.
Dr. Barton spoke to the scholarship recipients and members about the Lions' motto, "We Serve," and the benefits of services to a community and to one's self.
Among this year's scholarship winners:
• Brittany Ferrell is planning on attending Hanover College in Indiana. Mary Fent introduced Brittany Ferrell to the Lions. Mary was Brittany's babysitter from age six months and still includes her in many family activities.
• Becky Fiscus, aquatics director at the YMCA, introduced Amie Griffith. Becky is Amie's supervisor at the YMCA where she is a lifeguard.
The Lions Scholarship Committee includes Lions Earl Burnett, Mary Fent, Becky Fiscus, Jane and Paul Johnson, Catherine Meade and Tara Butler.
Two scholarships are awarded each year to Hillsboro High seniors and Southern State Community College students. (There were no applicants from Southern State this year.)
