With a promise that he would "do his best," Danny J. Daulton was sworn in Thursday, Dec. 29 as mayor of Leesburg.
Daulton, along with family, friends and people he said were instrumental in his life, gathered in the Highland County Juvenile Courtroom, where he was sworn in to office by Judge Kevin Greer.

Greer said that he knows Daulton will be successful in office because, "You are taking this on for all the right reasons. You are ethical and you are committed. You don't have a vendetta. You don't have a bone to pick, other than to serve the 'Friendly Village.' Leesburg did the right thing to put you in office. You need to listen to the people who put you in office. What we need in public office are people with good, strong character."

Daulton thanked his wife, Rita, who held the Bible as he took the oath, and the approximately 10 people in attendance. Daulton, who had been an engineer in the Dayton area, said that he couldn't do the job without "strong support from home."

"The only thing I promised (the people of Leesburg) was that I would do my best," Daulton said. "Every American owes it to serve his community. It
shouldn't be some catastrophic tragedy that brings us together. We should do that every day."

Daulton said that he appreciated the support of former Leesburg Mayor Jim Cook, saying that, "If I can do just part of what he accomplished in his four years, then I will be successful."

Thanking those who were in attendance, Daulton said, "Because of you, I am a better person. We can move on now and take care of business."
