Congressman Taylor introduces bill to return more federal lands revenue to Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Dave Taylor (OH-02) this week introduced the Acquired Lands Revenue Modernization Act, which would increase the share of qualifying revenue states receive from energy development on federally acquired lands. This bill would double the share of revenue generated through energy development in the Wayne National Forest back to southern Ohio communities. Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) introduced companion legislation in the Senate today.

“Ohio is leading the nation in energy development, and the Wayne National Forest plays a critical role in that effort,” said Congressman Taylor. “With more than 240,000 acres of land located almost entirely in Ohio’s Second Congressional District, our communities deserve to reap more of the rewards of energy development taking place in our own backyard. I’m proud to lead this effort to keep revenue close to home and ensure southern Ohio communities share in the economic benefits of American energy production.”

Under current law, states receive 25% of qualifying revenue generated from energy development on federally qualified lands, while the government retains 75%. The Acquired Lands Revenue Modernization Act would establish an even 50/50 revenue split, returning a greater share from federal land leases, rentals, and royalties to the states where development occurs. This change would provide additional resources to support communities near these projects.

The Acquired Lands Revenue Modernization Act will be referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources for consideration.
