Recovery program
meets on Tuesdays

   The Celebrate Victory Recovery Program meets every Tuesday night at 7
p.m. at ReaLife Church, located at 7454 Fenner Lane in Hillsboro.

Humane Society
yard sale June 10-11

   The Highland County Humane Society will host its annual yard sale
Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11. Feel free to help make the event a
success by looking in your attics, basements and garages for items you may
wish to donate. (No adult clothing, please.) All proceeds go directly to
benefit the animals at the shelter.

Alzheimer’s Support
Group meetings

   The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Cincinnati will sponsor a
Highland County Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group on the
third Monday of each month from 5-6:30 p.m. at Highland District Hospital.

Western Brown H.S.
class of 1979 reunion

   The Western Brown High School class of 1979 reunion will be Sunday, June
12 from 11 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. at the Brown County Rural Water Association Park,

Reservations being accepted
for ‘Maggie in Magic Land’
at Magic Waters Theatre

   The 29th summer season of live entertainment at Magic Waters Theatre,
east of Hillsboro, will begin on June 10 when ‘Maggie in Magic Land’ takes
to the stage at the rustic amphitheatre on Cave Road, midway between
Hillsboro and Chillicothe, just off of U.S. 50.
   Reservations are now being accepted for seating on the evenings of June
10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25. Call (937) 365-1388 to make reservations.

HHS class of 1981
plans 30th reunion

   The Hillsboro High School class of 1981 will hold its 30th reunion on
June 11 at the Fling Barn. The social hour will; be from 5-7:30 p.m. From
7:30-11 p.m., it’s open to the public, with music by The Frank Harrison
Group.
   No RSVP is necessary. Family, teachers and friends are invited. Contact

Father’s Day dinner
in Sinking Spring

   There will be a Father’s Day dinner at the Brushcreek Community Center
(Sinking Spring gym) on Saturday, June 18. Serving will begin at 5 p.m. The
menu is pork loin, cheesy potatoes, green beans or corn, salads and homemade
desserts. Door prize drawing for the men will be held at 6 p.m. Everyone
welcome. Donations accepted.

Hillsboro Christian Academy
hosts June 12 fish fry

   Hillsboro Christian Academy will host a fish fry on Sunday, June 12 from
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. They will serve fish, fries, slaw, drink and dessert.
The HCA is located at 8230 U.S. 50 east in Hillsboro at the Hillsboro Church
of the Nazarene Annex. ($5 suggested donation.)

Sinking Spring
alumni dinner June 11

   The annual Sinking Spring School alumni dinner will be held Saturday,
June 11 at the Sinking Spring Community Center (the former school
gymnasium).
   The social hour is from 4-6 p.m. Dinner will be a catered buffet served
at 6:30 p.m. The cost of the meal is $12 per person. Reservations need to be

Brush and Palette Art Guild
marks 54th year June 18-19

   The Brush and Palette Art Guild will celebrate its 54th year June 18 and
19, 1-6 p.m. at the Central Campus of Southern State Community College, 100
Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The guild has been told this is one of the best
shows in southwest Ohio. Over 50 professional and non-professional artists
from Highland County and surrounding counties will display more than 200
paintings. The theme category this year is “Highland County.”
   The event is free, and there will be door prizes of original artwork, a
silent auction, demonstrations and refreshments. A few guild members will
have displays for selling their own artwork, originals and prints.

AAUW scholarships
   The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will sponsor
scholarships for non-traditional female students. Applications are available
at the libraries in Hillsboro, Greenfield, Lynchburg, Leesburg or from any
AAUW member. The completed application must be returned by July 1. Call

Funds sought for
Veterans Memorial

   The Highland County Commissioners and the VFW are placing a Veterans
Memorial on the Highland County Courthouse lawn. The cost of the memorial is
$50,000. In order to raise the money, they will put any veteran’s name on a
brick for $50. All Highland County veterans are eligible. The committee will
also accept donations. Any veteran who wants to buy a brick may contact the
VFW at 393-0211 or call 393-9638.

Sunnyside Church of Christ

   The Sunnyside Church of Christ invites the public to visit its worship
service. The Bible study and worship service are at the Grange Building of
the Highland County Fairgrounds. The Bible study begins at 9:30 a.m.
Sundays. The worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays.

Community Action
offers summer meals

The Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. announces the
sponsorship of the summer food service program for children. Free meals will
be made available to all children 18 years of age and under
or persons over 18 who are determined by a state or local public educational
agency to be mentally or physically disabled. The meals will be provided
without regard to race color, national origin, gender, age or disability,
and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Any
person who believes he or she has been discriminated against in any
USDA-related activity should write or call immediately to the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, Director, Office of Adjudication, 1400
Independence Ave SW, Washington, D.C. 20250-9410; or call toll free (866)
632-9992 (voice).
   Individuals who are hearing impaired or have speech disabilities may
contact USDA through Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339 or (800)

HCAC fall soccer
sign-ups June 11, June 18

   HCAC fall soccer sign-ups will be on Saturday, June 11 and Saturday,
June 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Liberty Park Concession Stand. Sign-up
deadline is June 26. The cost is $55 for ages 6 and older. Ages 4 and 5 will
be $30 (they do not travel). Applications can be picked up in the box at the
concession stand.

New Harmony Lodge
sponsors charity ride

   New Harmony Lodge #435 F&AM and Mt. Orab Chapter #514 OES will sponsor
the Harmony Star Charity Ride, with donation to Cincinnati Shriners
Burns Hospital, on Aug. 27 (Sept. 10 rain date). Registration will
take place from 9-11 a.m., with lunch served at 1 p.m. The event will
start and end at the Mt. Orab Park with a picnic after the event.
Registration is $15 for single riders or $20 for double riders, with
an additional $7 per person for lunch (free for children under 5). The

Southern State Singers
to present June 12 concert

   The Southern State Singers will present “Music from the Stage and
Screen” concert 3 p.m. Sunday, June 12, in Room 107 of Southern State
Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro. The event
is free and open to the public.
The program will include a wide variety of music, including “The Barber of
Seville Overture,” “Unchained Melody,” “It Chanced When I Was Walking,”
“Shenandoah,” “High Hopes,” “Make Them Hear You,” “Anything Goes,” “Think of
Me,” “Wicked,” “One Hundred Years of Broadway: Section VI” and “The Complete
History of Western Music” (a humorous four-minute romp through several
centuries of music.
The Southern State Singers is a choral group comprised of students of
Southern State Community College as well as members of the community. The
group is directed by John Glaze; Mindy Lee performs as accompanist. For more

Bainbridge Fire Dept
fish fry June 18

The Bainbridge Fire Dept. will be having a Fish Fry Saturday, June 18
starting at 4 p.m. at the Amish Produce Auction on S.R. 41 south between

Immunization clinic June 13
   An immunization clinic will be held Monday, June 13 at the Highland
County Health Department, 1487 North High St., suite 400, Hillsboro,
from 1-4 p.m.
   The CARE-A-VAN Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service
presented by the Highland County Health Department and the Highland
District Hospital, will visit the Greenfield Pamida parking lot from
10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14.

Fundraiser at Buford Community Church

Join the fun and excitement , Saturday, June 18, at 7 p.m.,  as the Southern
Gospel band The Soaring Eagles perform during this church fundraiser to
purchase and ship Bibles to the Philippine Islands.  The Ladies of the
church will be selling their homemade bake goods (yummy) and we will be
drawing for door prizes from local places of business.  There will be
special poetry reading by local poet writer Jerrylyn Younts, sing-alongs,
testimonies and surprises for the children.  The Ladies Ministry will be
offering cookies and punch throughout the evening.  Admission is free

meets June 14

   The Highland County Board of Elections will hold their monthly meeting
Tuesday, June 14 at 8 a.m. at the Board of Elections office. Public is
welcome to attend.

Fall Creek Church
rummage sale July 1-2

   Fall Creek Church will host a rummage and bake sale July 1-2 from 9
a.m. - 4 p.m. daily. Most rummage items will cost 50¢. The church is
