Committee considers change of meeting dates for Greenfield council

The ordinance committee of the Greenfield Village Council will recommend that the council meetings be moved from every first and second Tuesday of the month to every first and second Wednesday.
The committee met Tuesday afternoon in council chambers in Greenfield, with council president Betty Jackman and council members Bob Bergstrom and Brenda Losey.
Jackman said that council had previously met on Wednesday nights until former Greenfield City Manager Charley Bowman and former council president Harvey Everhart proposed they be changed to Tuesday evenings to accommodate church schedules.
The Tuesday dates interfere with the coaching schedule of Bergstrom, who coaches the McClain High School boys track team, according to Jackman. Additionally, council clerk Roberta Karnes had stated that changing to Wednesday would eliminate some potential conflicts in her schedule.
"We didn't think that it would be a major problem to go back to the original meeting day," Jackman said.
While the committee had considered changing the meeting time to 7 p.m., Jackman said that most likely they will leave the time at 7:30 p.m.
"It seems like we're all pretty unanimous with it," Jackman said. "We'll have to get legislation drawn up, and it will probably be June before it is passed."
The matter will be brought before a full Greenfield Village Council during their next meeting, Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
