Commissioners hold 2013 organizational meeting

The Highland County Board of Commissioners held their 2013 organizational meeting Monday with commissioners Shane Wilkin and Tom Horst present.
Commissioner Jeremy Shaffer was not in attendance.
Commissioners approved nine resolutions, all by 2-0 votes.
For 2013, the commission officers will be Shane Wilkin, president; and Tom Horst, vice president.
Commissioners also approved Wednesdays as the day for its regular meetings, with Thursday meetings if necessary to continue business or if Wednesday is a holiday.
"We talked about keeping the meetings on Wednesday or perhaps changing to Monday," Wilkin said.
"After talking with other counties and talking to Mr. Fawley (Highland County Auditor Bill Fawley), we felt it (switching to Mondays) could be a hardship on his office," Horst said. "I think we should keep the meetings on Wednesday. If there's a Columbus meeting, one commissioner can go."
"Typically, not all of us would have to go to the Columbus meetings," Wilkin said.[[In-content Ad]]After discussion, commissioners voted, 2-0, to continue to meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays.
In other business:
• Commissioners voted to have Debbie Robbins as the representative on the Community Development Block Grant Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, with Bill Fawley as the alternate and Shane Wilkin as the hearing officer.
• Commissioners named Jeremy Shaffer to the Ohio Valley Resource Conservation and Development Council for 2013.
• Commissioners also voted Shaffer to Joint Solid Waste Management District Policy Committee.
• Commissioners voted Wilkin as the county's voting representative on the County Commissioners Association of Ohio with Horst as the alternate representative.
• Commissioners set the animal claims rate at 50 percent of market value for livestock killed by dogs.
• The board agreed to rehire the following county employees: Cathy Seifer, Dog Warden; Thomas Perrin, Maintenance; Chuck Taylor, Maintenance; Vivian Williams, Maintenance; Rick Rammel, Maintenance; Monica George, Clerk of County Court; Michelle Hatch, Deputy Clerk; Paul Orr, Bailiff/Deputy Clerk; Jenni Kennedy, Probation Department, Jay Dee Burba, Chore Service; Michael Truman, Zoning Inspection (Salem Township); Sandra White, Recycling; and Jim Lyle, EMA Director.
