Columbus area school district gets AEP shock

After being told for weeks that Highland County consumers are the only AEP customers voicing complaints about their huge rate increases, a suburban Columbus school district has joined the fray.
According to a report by Suburban News Publications, www.snponline.com, "The Upper Arlington school district is among many American Electric Power customers feeling the shock of a recent rate increase that unexpectedly added almost $100,000 to the district's electricity bill totals for this fiscal year.
"AEP increased rates 23 percent on five of the district's accounts and about 8 percent on four others, said district Treasurer Andy Geistfeld."
Highland County officials have reported that they've been told only local AEP customers have complained about the recent increases.
Geistfeld said the Upper Arlington School District had a reaction similar to those in other parts of the state who have been appealing to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, SNP said.
"We're working with other districts to be that loud voice so that those at PUCO and AEP know we don't support this," Superintendent Jeffrey Weaver told Suburban News Publications.[[In-content Ad]]
