City Sidewalk Christmas a success

The Greenfield Lions Christmas program entitled City Sidewalk Christmas held December 13 was a very successful event. More than 100 community members either performed on the stage, worked behind the scenes or did both. The combined efforts of these community-minded people produced a performance that was outstanding. Nearly 600 people attended the program. Many commented that it was one of the best shows put on in Greenfield for a long time.
The show began in the 1930's with the Great Depression, proceeded through World War II and then highlighted Christmas music from the 1940s and 1950s. Highlights included Greenfield's version of the Rockettes and Freddy the Freeloader, a popular character from the old Red Skelton Show. Santa Claus even made an appearance. Parents of children who had their picture taken with Santa can pick up their free photo at The Home Building and Loan in Greenfield.
The show was directed by Lion member Susan Long. Brad Barber was the assistant director and technical director. Pam Fabin was the choir director. These three put in many long hours to guarantee the success of the show.
The show was recorded by members of the television production classes at McClain High School. Copies are available at $5.00 by contacting Matt Raike at McClain.
Greenfield Lions would like to thank all who worked so hard to make the show a great success. A big thank you also goes out to all the community members who supported the program with their attendance. Proceeds from the show will be used by the Lions for their various community service projects
