City proclaims May as Support Our Troops of Highland County Month

The city of Hillsboro has proclaimed May as "Support Our Troops of Highland County Month," encouraging all citizens to assist them in their mission of lifting the spirits and paying tribute to Highland County citizens on active military service.

Mayor Drew Hastings read the proclamation at his office Tuesday afternoon and thanked the group for their work.

According to the proclamation, "Thanks to your generosity, the Support Our Troops of Highland County fulfills its mission of lifting the spirits of local active service personnel and families; pledging to provide emotional support by sending our locally deployed service persons care packages, letters, cards and special holiday greetings. Highland County Support Our Troops pays tribute to all those dedicated to our freedom by providing a home away from home and keeping them connected to the families they left behind."

"Throughout the city of Hillsboro, I urge and encourage all citizens to express their appreciation to the men and women who serve our hometown with honor, valor and pride by displaying yellow ribbons and American flags for the entire month," Hastings said in the proclamation.

The organization presented Hastings with a Support Our Troops of Highland County T-shirt and thanked him for his support.
