Representatives from Liberty Township and the city of Hillsboro met Friday in ongoing talks regarding the future of EMS and fire services.

No decisions have been made regarding numbers, or what type of service situation may ultimately take place.

Legal counsel to the townships, Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins said that she could not comment extensively on the ongoing negotiations, but that "all options are still being considered."

Those options include the city offering to form a fire district with Liberty Township, the city contracting with Liberty for the emergency services, and Liberty forming a fire district with Jackson, New Market and Washington Townships.

Earlier this week, Hillsboro City Council President Lee Koogler said that an announcement on the matter would be "forthcoming" from the city administration.

The Hillsboro City Council meets Monday at 7 p.m. in the Hillsboro Municipal Courtroom in the Highland County Justice Center. Several township trustees have stated their intent to attend the meeting to discuss the ongoing matters with council. Additionally, supporters of Hillsboro Fire and Rescue have encouraged a turnout of area residents to discuss the city's recent layoff of 26 volunteer and part-time firefighters.

Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings has scheduled a public meeting on the city/township negotiations Wednesday at Southern State Community College.
