Carraher Farms hosts 2013 Farm Bureau annual meeting

The Highland County Farm Bureau annual meeting was held Tuesday, Aug. 6, on the Carraher farm outside of Mowrystown.

Approximately 123 members and guests enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner, catered by Ponderosa of Hillsboro.

During the business meeting, which followed the dinner, approval was given to several new and revised proposed policies. These will go on to the state to be voted on by the delegates from each county.

Evan Davis, Jeff Roehm and Tim Sheeley were re-elected as trustees. Also, Ethan Howard, Kim Shoemaker and Steve Vance were elected to serve as new trustees.

Nathan Brown, Ron Caldwell and Evan Davis will serve as delegates to the 2014 OFBF Annual Meeting. Brandon Fullenkamp and Jim Faust will serve as alternates.

Patrick Roush, son of John Robert (JR) and Dana Roush of Lynchburg, was recognized as the winner of a $1,000 scholarship which will be paid after the 1st or 2nd grading period of his freshman year.

The Farmers Community Council was recognized for having the most members present and will receive a $25 check.

Nathan and Jennifer Brown were recognized as Highland County's Outstanding Young Farmers. They were presented a plaque and will go on to compete at the state level.

President Jeff Roehm recognized the board members and Action Team Leaders and presented a small token of thanks to each of them.

State trustees Craig Adams and Andra Troyer gave updates on the happenings at the state and national levels.

The program was then turned over to Dave Bushelman and Chief Dave Manning of the Lynchburg Fire Department who spoke about the Grain Bin Rescue Program. Each contributor was recognized.

The 2013-14 Action Team Leaders will be Communications, Amy Schoultheis and Brandon Fullenkamp; Food and Animal Issues, Tim Sheeley; Membership, Nathan Brown and Jeff Roehm; Organization, Jim Faust; and Public Policy, Evan Davis.

Several door prizes were awarded at the conclusion of the meeting.
