Bill Portman, father of U.S. Senate candidate Rob Portman, dies at 88
Longtime Cincinnati businessman and civic leader William C. "Bill" Portman has died at his home. He was 88.
The Associated Press reported this week that in a statement released through his son, Rob Portman's U.S. Senate campaign, Portman's family says he died Tuesday of natural causes.
Rob Portman is the Republican candidate hoping to succeed Sen. George Voinovich in Ohio. He canceled a Youngstown appearance Wednesday, the AP said.
Bill Portman is also survived by his son, Wym; daughter Ginna Portman Amis; and nine grandchildren. His wife, Joan, died in 1994. Bill Portman, a Cincinnati native earned his bachelor's degree and MBA at Dartmouth College and served as an Army lieutenant during World War II.
