Anna's Army relaunches website, kicks off fundraising season

With more than $100,000 raised in the past 10 years toward finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, Anna's Army is kicking off its 2012 fundraising season with the relaunch of its website.
Founded in 2002 by the family of Anna Reno, a Hillsboro Elementary student who was battling Cystic Fibrosis, the organization and its fundraising initiatives have grown into an annual event geared toward finding a cure for the disease.
Anna passed away in March 2009 at age 8.
The organization's mission is to raise funds, awareness, and to support ultimately finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.
Anna's Army held its kickoff event Tuesday at Dakota's in Hillsboro.
Anna's mother, Andi Reno, said the response Anna's Army gets, "Is absolutely amazing. It has grown so much over the years."
Anna's Army partnered with Dakota's "gold rush" program, which allows nonprofit organizations to distribute tickets for a given night. Dakota's will donate 15 percent of a meal purchase to the organization.
"It's our way of giving back," said Dakota's general manager Tom Owens.
Reno said that large fundraisers were the types of events that Anna loved.
"This was one of the things she loved most," Reno said. "Going out and saying, 'thank you' and meeting the people who supported her, she loved that."
With the relaunch of the website, visitors are now able to purchase merchandise, such as t-shirt and bumper stickers, and to make donations to the organization.
According to the website, "Anna’s Army, Inc. is a team of volunteers, family members and friends, working together to help raise awareness and funds for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) through fundraising, Anna’s Army gear sales, and so much more. We do not limit ourselves to anything, for it all is reachable with help from everyone who gets involved."
In 2009, the Highland County Board of Commissioners proclaimed that the third Friday in April will be Anna's Army Day each year. The event is held on the lawn of the Highland County Courthouse, and all proceeds go toward the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In 2011, Reno said, they raised approximately $13,000.
The 2012 Anna's Army Day will be held on April 20.
The next fundraiser will be held March 6 at the Hillsboro Ponderosa from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.
