You have an opportunity this week to learn more about Interventional Radiology and visit Adena’s new Interventional Radiology Lab.

An open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the facility, inside the Adena Medical Center. Enter through the center’s West Entrance.

“With the help of electronic imagery, our physician specialists can insert small instruments and tools, such as catheters and wires, inside a patient’s body to perform surgery,” said Debbie Sims, Radiology Supervisor at Adena.

“Before we started this program a few months ago, our patients would have to travel to Columbus to have these procedures,” she said.

Today, many conditions that once required surgery can be treated without surgery, by interventional radiologists. IR is used for both diagnosis and treatment.

Interventional radiologists use X-rays, ultrasound and other medical images to guide small instruments, such as tiny catheters, through blood vessels to treat conditions. These procedures are typically much less invasive and much less costly than traditional surgery.

“We currently have eight specialized physicians capable of performing a variety of procedures, including radiofrequency/cryo-ablation and biliary stent placement,” Sims said.

The physicians are Dr. Ricardo Barboza, Dr. Jayesh Hari, Dr. David Hoenninger, Dr. Joseph Larosa, Dr. Matthew Loe, Dr. David Magee, Dr. William Mitchell and Dr. Moni Stein.

The staff consists of Karen Benson, Mark Shifko, Roger Trace, Wayne Wilbur and Tracey Wyant.[[In-content Ad]]
