Adena and VA to host symposium on veteran integration
Adena Health System and the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center, will host a daylong symposium for medical providers, first responders, law enforcement, counselors and other professionals caring for the veteran community.
The symposium, Keys to Successful Transition and Integration of Veterans and Service Members, will be held Saturday, Sept. 22 from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on the campus of Adena Medical Center in the PACCAR Medical Education Center, located at 464 Hospital Road, Chillicothe.
The symposium is intended to:
• Bring attention to the needs of veterans in Southeastern Ohio by presenting the most current ideas and treatment options for veterans, their families, and the community.
• Demonstrate increased awareness of the transitional needs of returning service personnel.
• Gain useful insight about the numerous strengths that veterans may bring to the community and the therapeutic relationship.
• Discuss the evolving justice system in response to the treatment needs of justice-involved veterans and citizens.
• Integrate fresh, new diagnostic perspectives and clinical skills into practice.
A number of breakout sessions will be held throughout the day focusing on these areas and more.
In addition, participants will hear from speakers, including keynote remarks from Justice Evelyn Lundberg Straton of the Supreme Court of Ohio.
The cost for the symposium is $40 for attendees wishing to receive CEUs. Admission is free for those who are not receiving CEUs.
All attendees will receive breakfast and lunch at no extra charge. Anyone interested in attending, either to receive CEUs or not, are asked to register electronically by September 18 at www.adenapaccar.com.

Longtime urologists
retiring after 40 years
Professional partners for nearly 40 years, the founders of Adena Ross Urology have announced they will retire on Sept. 30, 2012. Dr. Emmanuel Magbag and Dr. Numeriano Jalbuena each made Chillicothe their home in the 1970s, and have been taking care of generations of patients in their urology practice.
Dr. Magbag chose Chillicothe in 1974. As a young physician, he was working in West Virginia and traveled to Columbus to take his state board exam. On his way home, he decided to stop at Adena Hospital to ask if they were hiring. As fate would have it, the urologist at the time was looking for a partner and Dr. Magbag joined the practice soon after.
One year later, Dr. Jalbuena came to visit Magbag in Chillicothe. The two had been medical residents together at a hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania. The previous urologist was leaving and Magbag asked Jalbuena to consider joining him in the practice. The two have been working together ever since.
Both physicians have high praise for Chillicothe and the patients they have served for four decades. “They appreciate what you do,” said Dr. Magbag. “When they are happy, I am happy.” Dr. Jalbuena plans to retire completely, pursuing his glass art hobby; and Dr. Magbag plans to travel and continue practicing on a part-time basis at the VA facility.
Adena Ross Urology will permanently close its 8 Medical Drive office on Friday, Sept. 28. Patients of Adena Ross Urology will now be served by physicians at Adena Urology, located on the campus of Adena Medical Center. Adena Ross office staff will also transfer to Adena Urology.
