Lady Lions defeat Manchester for 3rd win of season

Playing their third consecutive road game, the Fairfield Lady Lions added a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on Thursday evening by defeating the Manchester Lady Greyhounds, 56-41. 

The Dec. 4 win at Manchester High School by Fairfield saw them lead after each frame as they outscored the host Manchester squad in each of the first three quarters and tied in fourth-quarter scoring. 

Fairfield built a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter with points scored by Isabelle Hale, Jaeden Drury, Vivian Henninger, Addison Cannon and Meri Jackson. 

The second-quarter scoring included points from Rilee Quickle, Brya Fauber, Henninger, Cannon and Jackson as Fairfield outscored Manchester 15-8 in the quarter and took a halftime lead of 27-16. 

FHS continued to set the pace in the SHAC contest with a 14-11 third quarter in their favor as Hale, Quickle, Cannon and Jackson contributed to the scoring with two 3-pointers made by Quickle in the frame. 

With Fairfield leading 42-27 after three quarters, the two teams each scored 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Lions’ scoring came off baskets by Quickle, Drury, Landyn Hodson, Cannon and Jackson. 

Fairfield’s scoring leader was Quicle with 14 points as she made two 3-pointers and four two-point baskets. 

Jackson followed with 12 points off three baskets and six made free throws as she was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. 

Hale finished with six points in the win with three baskets, Drury ended the SHAC game with four points off a basket and two free-throw conversions. 

The Lady Lions also had three points scored by Hodson with a basket and free throw make, while Henninger totaled five points with a two-point bucket and a 3-pointer. Cannon ended with eight points off four baskets. 

Totals for Fairfield were 19 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers, and they were 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. 

Leading Manchester in the scoring column was Hayden Rideout, who totaled 15 points. MHS also had Lyrric Hanson with 12 points and Mahayla Brown with 10 points. Manchester also had Maddie Easter total three points, and Hope Scott scored one point. 

Manchester team totals included 14 two-point buckets, three 3-pointers, and they were 4-of-11 in their free-throw attempts. 

The win improves Fairfield’s overall record to 3-1 and 1-1 in the SHAC Division II standings. Manchester now stands at 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the Division II SHAC standings. 

Next for Fairfield is a SHAC game on Monday, Dec. 8 on the road at Ripley as this will be the fourth straight road contest for the Lady Lions.
