Hillsboro man gets 4-year sentence in meth trafficking case

A Hillsboro man has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated meth trafficking charges.

Jason McCoy, 48, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in June on two counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine and two counts of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, all third-degree felonies.

All four charges in the indictment stemmed from two dates in November 2022, where it was alleged that McCoy “did knowingly obtain, possess or use,” and “did knowingly sell or offer to sell,” meth in an amount equal to or exceeding bulk amount but less than five times bulk amount.

The charges, in a then-secret indictment, were the result of a Highland County Task Force drug investigation.

McCoy pleaded guilty to both trafficking charges in August, with the two possession charges dismissed.

During a sentencing hearing Sept. 28, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss imposed a sentence of 24 months on each count, to run consecutively, for a total of 48 months in prison. McCoy had four days of jail time credit.

In addition, McCoy was ordered to pay restitution to the Highland County Task Force, including $80 alone and $80 jointly and severally with a co-defendant, whose case is still pending.
