Hillsboro golf teams bow out of tournament

The Hillsboro boys and girls golf teams competed in the Division I Southwest District sectionals during the week of Oct. 2.

On Oct. 2 at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace in Centerville, the Hillsboro boys team finished 12th overall with a team score of 442.

The Indians’ leading golfer was freshman Logan Barton with a low score of 106, including shooting a 51 on the front nine and a 55 on the back nine. He was followed closely by junior Tate Davis with a 107.

Junior Logan Zurface shot a 110 at sectionals. Rounding out the individual scoring for HHS were sophomore Walker Pence with a 119 and freshman Conner Kelch with a 120.

The event was won by Springboro with a 287, as Oakwood (306), Centerville (309) and Fairmont (337) also advanced to districts. Braylen Haney of Wayne (70), Aiden Standifer of Franklin (74) and Peyton Lawley (81) and Sam Straswer (82), both of Lebanon, were the individual qualifiers.

On Oct. 5, the Hillsboro Lady Indians team traveled to WGC Golf Course in Xenia, where they compiled a team score of 543, good for 18th overall.

Junior Emma Yochum led the way for HHS, as she scored a 107, including a 53 on the front nine and 54 on the back nine.

Lady Indians junior Amani Cumberland was next, shooting a 137. She was followed by senior Halle Jones with a 133, sophomore Rylea Scarberry with a 142 and junior Addy Knauff with a 157.

The event was won by Centerville (315), as the district-qualifying teams also included Bellbrook (327), Beavercreek (350) and Tippecanoe (370). The individual district qualifiers were Ally Turner of Miamisburg (77), Kyrstin Schillens of Chaminade Julienne (79), Megan Fosburg of Northmont (84) and Tatum Werntz of Sidney (84).
