On Sept. 27, three Hillsboro FFA officers, Riley Collins, Emma Yochum and Corbin Winkle, went to the Capitol building for the Ohio Legislative Leadership Conference, where they met members of other chapters, state officers and state representatives in the statehouse and listened to guest speakers from Ohio Farm Bureau.

The officers participated in advocacy sessions that were led by the Farm Bureau, where they learned how to lobby and argue for agricultural issues that are happening and being talked about in these day-to-day meetings.

These three also got to meet with legislators and speak with them during the luncheon. They met with State Senator, Shane Wilkin, and got a tour of his office and met with his staff that make his schedule from day to day.

The Ohio Director of Agriculture, Brian Baldridge, gave remarks during lunch, and state FFA president Luke Jennings gave a story about his experiences in the FFA.

“This was a good learning experience, getting to see how it feels to talk on these real-life topics and meet with the people that represent our state,” said Winkle.

These members had a good leadership experience and got to interact with other Ohio FFA Chapters.
