    Citizen's tip leads to active meth lab bust WATCH THE VIDEO

    Two people have been arrested, with possibly more charges to follow, after the Highland County Sheriff's Office discovered an active meth lab and marijuana grow operation at a residence at the corner of U.S. 50 West and Cheri Drive.

        According to Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward, the HCSO received a call from a concerned citizen at approximately 2:59 p.m. Monday, regarding possible illegal drug activity.
        A deputy was dispatched to the area, and upon arrival, one individual was seen fleeing from the house. The deputy was able to detain the suspect, and secure the location.

    In an effort to generate millions of dollars for the construction of some of the state’s largest, most expensive transportation projects, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is moving forward with a plan to explore the commercial development of certain state-owned rest areas.

    Two charged with breaking and entering
    Two people were arrested Sunday by the Hillsboro Police Department, following charges of breaking and entering at a Fair Street property. Alicia Furguson, 21, and T.J. Burns, 23, were charged with breaking and entering, theft, and obstructing official business, according to the HPD. Burns also had outstanding warrants from the Leesburg Police Department, the HPD said.

    Miss Ohio Audrey Bolte was named second runner-up in the 2012 Miss USA Pageant. Audrey is the daughter of former Highland County residents Bill Bolte and Shelly (Johns) Bolte.

    Cathy Seifer has been named the Highland County deputy dog warden, effective June 4, and will become the dog warden, effective June 9. Commissioners Shane Wilkin and Tom Horst voted to approve Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward's recommendation during the May 30 board meeting.

    Sheeley places second in State FFA Proficiency competition

    On May 3, at the 2012 Ohio FFA Convention, Kelsey Sheeley of the Hillsboro
    FFA placed second in Diversified Livestock Production Proficiency Award. Kelsey is the daughter of Tim and Karen Sheeley of Hillsboro and a 2011 graduate of Hillsboro High School.
