The Hamilton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash. The crash occurred last Tuesday, March 12, just before 8 p.m., at the intersection of state Route 63 and American Way in Monroe, Butler County.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2019 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special motorcycle, operated by Joseph M. Gisewite, 51, Middletown, was traveling west on state Route 63. A 2021 GMC Yukon, operated by Waldo Hurley, 41, Monroe, was turning left to travel north onto American Way from eastbound state Route 63.

The Harley Davidson allegedly failed to obey a traffic signal (red light), continuing westbound on state Route 63, and struck the GMC that was making its turn in the intersection.

Gisewite was transported by ground ambulance to Atrium Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Later that evening, Gisewite was transported by air ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital for further treatment. On March 18, Gisewite succumbed to fatal injuries resulting from the crash.

Hurley was transported by ground ambulance to U.C. West Chester Hospital with minor injuries.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Monroe Police Department, Monroe Fire Department & EMS and Case Towing.
