• Hillsboro loses in three sets to Jackson
The Hillsboro Lady Indians lost in three straight sets to the visiting Jackson Ironladies on Thursday night at Hillsboro High School in Frontier Athletic Conference play. The Lady Indians lost by scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-21.
Jackson led the entire first set against HHS, but HHS did have points scored by Mya Bell and Emma Birkhimer early in the set to make it a 6-3 deficit. HHS got to 7-5 following a play at the net from Birkhimer, but mostly from that point on, the first set belonged to Jackson.
JHS built their set one lead to 15-6, forcing the Lady Indians to call a timeout. From that point forward, the Ironladies outscored HHS, 10-4 to end the first set.
The second set was tied eight times, all the way up to 13-13. Again, Jackson took over by outscoring the Lady Indians, 12-4 to win set two by eight points at 25-17.
HHS continued to battle vs. Jackson and played their closest set in the third set with HHS leading 10-5 at one point with help from a play by Birkhimer at the net, as the Lady Indians forced Jackson to call a timeout.
Following the break in action, Jackson began to rally with a tie at 13, then once they regained the lead at 14-13 they never trailed again. HHS tried to battle back with an ace from Julie Middleton to get to a 22-16 deficit, but eventually Jackson scored the 25th point of the set to win the match in three sets.

• Fairfield drops SHAC match to Peebles
In an important Southern Hills Athletic Conference match on Thursday, the Fairfield Lady Lions gave all they had on the road at Peebles but lost in a tough five sets to the host Peebles Lady Indians.
Fairfield lost the first set by a 25-10 score, but came back with a 25-14 win in set two. The third set went to PHS at 25-16, but set four saw the away team Lady Lions keep the match alive with a 25-21 score. In set five, the hosts defended their home court, winning over Fairfield at 15-13.
The loss moves FHS to 10-6 overall and 7-2 in the SHAC.
