Transylvania women's basketball stands atop 2021-22 HCAC Preseason Coaches' poll

The Transylvania women's basketball team will enter the 2021-22 season as the favorites to defend its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference crown, having been picked first in the annual HCAC preseason coaches' poll.
The reigning three-time conference tournament champions, Transylvania collected six of 10 first-place votes to lead the way atop the poll definitively with 95 voting points. Hanover College followed in second place with 86 voting points while Mount St. Joseph University checked in at third place with 70 points.
Against the challenges of a pandemic season, the Pioneers continued their tradition of excellence, delivering a 14-6 overall record in 2020-21 and winning their third consecutive HCAC Tournament championship over Hanover College last March. Transylvania went 12-3 against HCAC opponents last season to further cement its annual place at the top of the HCAC.
The team includes senior Grace Shope, a former Fairfield Lady Lions standout. Last season, she was second-team All-HCAC and led the team in steals with 2.5 spg, 8.0 ppg and 5.3 rpg.
Transylvania tips off the season Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Spalding University in Louisville, Ky. at 7 p.m. The HCAC schedule gets underway for the Pioneers on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana Ind. a 7 p.m. tip.
