Stodgel earns state indoor track championship

Indoor track and field athletes from Highland County competed in the OATCC Division II/III Indoor State Championships in Geneva at the SPIRE Institute Saturday, where Hillsboro senior Draven Stodgel earned a state championship.

Stodgel — who placed in the state outdoor discus event as a junior — was crowned the state champion in the shot put event on Saturday (March 7) with a throw of 56-02.00, as the second-place distance in the indoor event was 55-02.25.

Also in the boys shot put for the Indians was senior Silas Simmons, who placed 21st overall with a throw of 44-05.00.

In the girls high jump for the indoor state event, Hillsboro junior Cierra Lively had a height of 4-10.00, tied for 18th place.

For Fairfield, senior Ailean Duffie was 23rd overall at the state girls 60-meter hurdles race with a time of 10.539. Duffie also competed in the triple jump event, where she finished in 19th place at 28-06.00.

Fairfield’s Ethan Davis was seventh place in the boys 3200-meter run with a time of 9:47.78.

The Fairfield 4x800m relay team of senior Gavin Campbell, senior Ethan Davis, junior Blake Haines and junior Cohen Frost had a zone violation and had a DQ.
