Friday, Aug. 21
Lynchburg-Clay boys soccer defeats Western Brown
The 2020 boys soccer season for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs began with a big non-conference win over the host Western Brown Broncos by a 2-1 score at WBHS.
The season-opening win saw the Mustangs have goals from Nathan Brown and Trey Pitzer.
Harrison Burge tallied an assist for LCHS, and at goal Ian Waits finished with eight saves.
The win moves the Mustangs to 1-0 overall. LCHS is scheduled to host the Peebles Indians Monday, Aug. 24 at home at 4:30 p.m. in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action.

LC Lady Mustangs fall to Western Brown
In their season opener on the road Friday night, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs were shut out by the host Western Brown Lady Broncos, falling by a 3-0 score at WBHS.
For the Lady Mustangs, they finished with nine saves from keeper Philemina Toca.
The loss moves LCHS to 0-1 overall, and they are next scheduled to host the Peebles Lady Indians Monday, Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game.

Saturday, Aug. 22
Hillsboro Lady Indians lose close match to Eastern Lady Warriors
Following an offseason that has been far different than usual for all teams, the Hillsboro Lady Indians finally got on the field to open their 2020 regular season. The game was played closely but ended in a non-conference 5-4 road loss to the Eastern Lady Warriors.
Hillsboro scored all four of their goals in the first half, as junior Hannah Brandyberry scored Hillsboro’s first goal of the season. The next three goals for Hillsboro resulted in a hat trick for the Lady Indians, with senior Alexia Sheppard sending the ball past the keeper of Eastern.
Hillsboro led by a 4-3 score at halftime. Eastern added two goals in the second half, while the Lady Warriors’ defense shut out the Lady Indians in the final 40 minutes of play.
Taylor Leathley and Hannah Holland each had an assist for the Lady Indians.
Eastern’s goals were scored by Alyssa Perkins, Emma Prine and Mary Litzinger, all with one goal each, and Rylee Leonard scored two goals in the win, one in each half.
“The offseason has been a little difficult with COVID going on, but the girls have worked really hard and have done really well. We saw some positive things today, and without having a scrimmage we didn’t really know what to fix, but now we know what to fix and we have a good idea where we are going,” Hillsboro girls head coach Amanda Miller said. “Our four seniors are doing a good job leading (Sheppard, Samantha Blair, Sydney Lanning and MacKenzie Adams). All four are doing a good job, all have a unique way of leading and they are all doing an amazing job of doing that.
“I’m happy with the girls. We had some freshmen come in and had some good surprises for us. They are slowly coming out of their shells and becoming good athletes. We had a lot of good returning sophomores, and our junior class has 12 girls, so we have a very positive season ahead of us.”
Next for the Hillsboro Lady Indians (0-1) is a home match (non-conference) on Tuesday, Aug. 25 against Unioto at 6:30 p.m. following the boys match.

Games Postponed on Saturday
Three teams from Highland County had their season-opening matches postponed Saturday due to inclement weather. The Hillsboro Indians boys game at Eastern was postponed until Wednesday, Aug. 26 at EHS.
Also, both the Fairfield boys and girls soccer teams had their games postponed due to inclement weather Saturday, as they were scheduled to face Piketon at PHS. The games have yet to be rescheduled.
