Mangus leads FHS cross-country to win

PIKETON — The Fairfield boys cross-country team were winners in their season opener at Piketon on Monday, Aug. 22, defeating eight other schools en route to the victory.
Fairfield's Michael Mangus was the winner of the boys run with a time of 17:13. Second place went to Zach Varney of Piketon with a time of 17:51.
Mangus out-ran 51 other runners for the win.
FHS scored a total of 37 points in their first-place effort. Second place was South Webster with 41 points. Third went to Portsmouth Clay (82), fourth was Piketon (84) and fifth was Waverly (98). Huntington, Valley, Oak Hill and Eastern Pike had no team scores.
FHS took three more Top 10 spots with Blake Hildebrand finishing in eighth place (18:59), followed by John Cain in ninth (19:05) and Wyatt Crothers in 10th (19:07).
Other finishers for FHS included: Dustin Willey in 13th (19:14), Brant Huff (21:39), Matthew Leach (21:49), Tyler Sims (23:07), Caleb Huff (23:15), Jacob Dalton (27:13), Jacob Ramill (27:14) and Layne Irvin (28:36).
In the girls run FHS didn't have a team score, with Piketon winning the event with 19 points. Oak Hill was the only other girls team with an overall score at 42.
For FHS, Kaitlin Evans finished in 10th place with a time of 25:24. Brena Simons was 13th at 26:13, and Heather Cox was 15th with a time of 26:18. Hailey Bobb had a time of 30:15.
In the middle school boys run, Fairfield finished in second place with 34 points.
FMS had five runners in the Top 10.
Klay Walker was the highest finisher for Fairfield in fourth place, with a time of 12:52. FMS also took places 6-9 with Trey Current (6, 13:55), Mason Cain (7, 13:57), Trent Tate (8, 13:37) and Wyatt Harris (9, 14:00).
In the girls middle school run, the top finisher for Fairfield was Kara Walters in 12th place with a time of 16:49.[[In-content Ad]]
