Lynchburg-Clay, Fairfield golfers compete at districts

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs boys golf team and freshman golfer Brody Fauber of Fairfield wrapped up a successful season at the Division III District Tournament, held Monday at the Elks Country Club in McDermott.
LCHS finished in fourth place as a team at districts with a score of 362. For individual scoring, the team was led by sophomore Saxen Wilkin, who shot an 86, including a 45 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine. He finished tied for 13th place as an individual.
Next were the Mustangs’ two seniors, as Logan Shope shot an 89 (47, 42) and was tied for 19th as an individual, and Ian Waits finished with a 91 (44, 47) and was tied for 26th as an individual.
Rounding out the final scoring for the Mustangs were sophomore Braeden West, who finished with a score of 96 (49, 47) and tied for 35th overall, and sophomore Cody Bell, who shot a 99 (51, 48) and tied for 41st overall.
Also competing at the district tournament was Fairfield freshman Brody Fauber, who qualified as an individual.
Fauber shot a 48 on the front nine and a 49 on the back nine for a final score of 97. He ended the tournament tied for 39th as an individual.
Golfers and coaches from both Lynchburg-Clay and Fairfield also showed support for Whiteoak during the district tournament, as WHS freshman (and member of the golf team) Kolton Hamilton passed away last week. The Highland County representatives at the district golf match wore orange ribbons to pay tribute to Hamilton and the Whiteoak community.
Qualifying for state were the North Adams Green Devils (Ethan Taylor, Breestin Schweickart, Wyatt Applegate, Chris Hall, Connor Young) and sophomore Cameron Phillips of Valley.
