The Fairfield boys cross-country team traveled to Pike County to participate in the Piketon Invitational held at Piketon HS on Saturday. The team placed fifth out of 17 full teams.
The winner was Teays Valley with a low score of 78.
FHS senior Michael Mangus finished runner-up in a field of 217 runners with a time of 16:26.
Finishing seventh and running his strongest race of the year was senior Blake Hildebrant with a time of 16:42. Finishing 21st was freshman Trent Swisher with a time of 17:39.

Dustin Willey was 71st, 19:21; Matthew Leach 81st, 19:39; Mason Cain 104th, 20:26; Dillon Burley 138th, 21:18; Clayton Jacobs 143rd, 21:22; Skylar Moon 122nd, 23:10; Tony Paul 180th, 24:11; and Jason Moeller 186th, 24:22.
Fairfield did not have any high school girls runners compete.
The team will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Highland County Invitational held at Fairfield, beginning with an elementary run at 4:30 p.m.
