Fairfield Lions fall at home to Ripley Blue Jays

In a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game played on Friday (Dec. 13), the Fairfield Lions gave the Ripley Blue Jays a tough contest, but when the game was over, it was the visiting Blue Jays who were the winners.
Fairfield lost to the Blue Jays by a 59-51 score, and the biggest difference in the game was the second frame where the Lions were outscored 10-5 in the quarter.

As for the other three frames, all had no more than a two-point scoring differential, starting with the first quarter where Ripley led 16-14 after eight minutes. Following the aforementioned second-frame scoring at 10-5 in favor of Ripley, the Blue Jays held a 26-19 advantage.
Both teams scored 16 points in the third frame, and in the fourth quarter the Blue Jays gained one more point than Fairfield at 17-16.
The Lions were led on the scoreboard by Bryson Simmons with 26 points, with Simmons making 10 two-point field goals, plus two 3-pointers with those coming in the first and third quarters. Most of Simmons’ scoring was in the second half, with 11 points in the third and eight points in the fourth quarter.
James Bentley followed with eight points, while Tytis Cannon totaled seven points, including a 3-pointer in the first quarter.
Next was Wyatt Willey with five points (a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter), and following him were Tucker Watson with four points and Reese Teeters with one point.
Ripley was led by Nigel Royal with 20 points (nine two-point baskets, two free throws), followed by TK Whaley with 18 points (nine two-point baskets) and Peyton Fyfe totaling 15 points (one two-point basket, four 3-pointers, one free throw). Also adding to the scoring was Cody Germann with six points (one 3-pointer).
The Blue Jays totaled 20 two-point field goals, five 3-pointers and they were 4-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Lions totaled 16 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers and they finished 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
On Saturday, the Lions lost to Cedarville in non-conference action by a 69-60 score.
Next for the Lions is a SHAC game on Friday, Dec. 20 at Manchester.
