Emma Fouch nets 29 points as Fairfield wins over East Clinton

On their home court for the first time for the 2020-21 season, the Fairfield Lady Lions gained a non-conference win on Wednesday night by defeating the East Clinton Lady Astros, 75-65.
In the win for the Lady Lions, they were led in the scoring column by junior Emma Fouch, who led the way with 29 points, six rebounds, three steals and she was 11-of-15 from the floor with four 3-pointers. Fouch was also 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Also for the Lady Lions, sophomore Peyton Magee collected a double-double with 11 points, 11 assists and six rebounds.
Fairfield junior Braylynn Haines finished with double-digit scoring as well, totaling 14 points.
The non-conference showdown started off strong for the Lady Lions with them leading 23-2 at the conclusion of the first frame. In that quarter, the Lady Lions had seven points by Ella Newkirk (including a 3-pointer), nine points by Fouch (one 3-pointer), one point from Magee, two points from Madison Bronner and four points off two baskets by Haines.
Fairfield added 19 points to their total in the second quarter with Fouch knocking down two 3-pointers, while teammate Magee made a 3-pointer and a two-point bucket in the frame.
The second quarter also had two points by Faith Donley, four points from Bronner and two points by Haines.
East Clinton scored 21 points in the second quarter, but it was Fairfield who led at halftime at 42-23. East Clinton had another big scoring quarter in the third with the visitors scoring 24 points, while Fairfield scored 16 points. At the end of the third, the Lady Lions led by a 58-47 score.
Fairfield (2-0) in the third had a two-point basket by Newkirk, along with six points from Fouch, two points from the free-throw line by Bronner, four points by Haines and a two-point basket off a shot from Shaleigh Duncan.
In the final frame, East Clinton scored 18 points, while Fairfield tallied 17 points. FHS had eight points by Fouch, five points by Magee and four points by Haines in the fourth frame.
Newkirk ended the game with nine points, while Bronner totaled eight points in the win. Donley and Duncan each scored two points for FHS. As a team, the Lady Lions made six 3-pointers with Fouch sinking four, while Newkirk and Magee each had one.
East Clinton’s Libby Evanshine led all scorers with 30 points. She scored two points in the first frame, then followed with quarter scoring of 10 points in the second, eight points in the third and 10 points in the fourth frame. Evanshine totaled 12 two-point baskets, and she was 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Also for ECHS, Katrina Bowman and Lauren Runyon each scored 10 points, while the rest of the East Clinton scoring included Kami Whiteaker (3), Gracie Evanshine (3), Jayden Murphy (3), Lane Boggs (2) and Gracie Boggs (4).
For the game, ECHS was 17-of-20 with their free-throw shooting. Fairfield finished 15-of-22 from the free-throw line.
